New publications have been popping up all over Capital region. In the last year, the region welcomed a new entertainment magazine, new sports magazine and a Hispanic magazine. In October, the third addition to Lansing’s hip-hop publication scene should hit the shelves.
Brandyn Armstrong, area entrepreneur and owner of Lansing design company, B-Unique Designz, is reviewing local and national hip-hop acts that travel through Mid-Michigan for his next issue of Hood Illustrated.
“It’s taking off,” he says about the magazine. “People really like the magazine and are waiting for the next issue.”
Hood Illustrated is a small, 32-page mini booklet that Armstrong launched in September 2007. It covers everything hip hop, and has taken Armstrong to many hip-hop shows.
“I would say there’s at least 50 hip-hop groups in Lansing,” he says. “There’s a lot of people doing it around here. That’s what we’re trying to get noticed. Too many young people are doing things around here that people don’t know about.”
Hood Illustrated can be found several locations throughout Lansing including Metro Music, CMO Fashion, Lansing Fish Market and Tony’s Party store.
