The long process of revamping the zoning rules in Ann Arbor, commonly known as A2D2, came awfully close to being finalized this spring. Unfortunately, it looks like it will now have to wait until this summer before becoming a reality.
"It’s likely it will be sometime in June when this is all pulled together," says Wendy Rampson, systems planner for the city of Ann Arbor.
The Ann Arbor City Council kicked back the downtown version of A2D2 to the city’s Planning Commission Monday night. Among the changes being considered are a height restriction to downtown buildings of 180 feet, about 16 stories.
City official's have been developing zoning and design guidelines for the city's downtown for nearly three years. The general concepts it is working with are beefing up zoning for denser and more mixed-use developments, along with creating architectural guidelines that call for new buildings to blend in with their surroundings.
