Riverside Park close to finishing dock project in Ypsilanti

Work on rebuilding the dock in Riverside Park in Ypsilanti is nearly finished. The Depot Town Community Development Corporation expects to wrap up work in the next few weeks.

The Depot Town CDC began rebuilding the 25-year-old dock in Riverside Park last fall. Deferred maintenance, short-term fixes from years ago (plywood over holes), and long-term neglect made it unsafe.

Now the frayed plywood is gone, rotted planks are replaced and new railing is installed. It also features an octagonal gazebo at the end of the dock. The Washtenaw Community College's Construction Institute helped make the project happen.

The Depot Town CDC is also looking at creating a new band shell and extending the Border to Border Trail through the park. But this summer it plans to take advantage of the park with some new program offerings, such as a new music festival in September.

"We're really going to focus on our programming offerings this year," says Erik Dotzauer, executive director of Depot Town Community Development Corporation.
