Upland Green wraps up construction on Ann Arbor's north side

The Great Recession stalled a lot of local projects and now the last of them is on course to be completed. Upland Green will soon be welcoming residents to its newly finished apartments.

The first phase of Upland Green was built at 1771 Plymouth Road, just across the street from the University of Michigan's North Campus. Construction began close to a decade ago and was stalled as the Great Recession hit in 2008. The development team brought on additional partners and finished construction within six months.

That first phase brought 20 apartments online and 12,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. There was still room on the back side of the property to build a second phase, but a move forward required that the economy improve. That happened last year.

"We felt the market in Ann Arbor is ripe for development," says Raymond Eshaghoff, managing member of the Upland Green development team. "We are located right across the street from North Campus and there is a huge demand for high-end housing."

Upland Green's second phase includes 34 apartments, including 30 one-bedrooms and four studios. The one-bedrooms measure at 730 square feet and start at $1,400 per month. The studios measure at 560 square feet and start at $1,250 per month.

"We already have eight units occupied and a few more in lease negotiations," Eshaghoff says.
