Harvey Ovshinsky's work is less about branding or marketing and more about storytelling --so much so, the title on his business card for HKO Media is "story consultant".
As Ovshinsky puts it, the firm reaches beyond branding and marketing strategies and helps its clients discover their real identities, what they really do. This allows them to tell their story so their customers can relate, which often leads to increased business.
"It helps them identify their plots and themes," Ovshinsky says.
HKO has the procedure down to a science now but only because it has evolved its process over twenty plus years. Ovshinsky founded the company in 1986, the leaving Channel 56 as the Director of Production because "it was time to make a move for myself," he explains.
And he has been steadily making those moves. Although his company only has two employees it keeps a stable of freelancers busy and it hires additional people as the projects come in.
He expects that type of consulting work to continue to be strong in his firm even as the tough economy slogs along.
"As the dollars shrink and the economy worsens, more and more people want more bang for their buck," Ovshinsky says.
