A123 Systems triples in size, to hire more engineers

Tripling the size of your company within a year is the type of growth most businesses lust for. Which would make A123Systems an object of desire.

The company that specializes in hybrid and high power lithium technology (think Chevy Volt's break-through batteries) has grown from 300 employees to more than 1,000 in just 12 months.

Although the A123Systems is based on the East Coast, it's currently looking to fill engineering and material science positions at its Ann Arbor and Livonia offices.

"We are very happy with the performance of our operations in MI and have plans to further expand them to support our growth plans," says Ric Fulop, founder and VP of business development for A123Systems.

Those Michigan offices compliment the companies other operations in Toronto, China and Korea. It plans to use those offices as it grabs bigger market share in alternative energy sector (read hybrids and the like) in the automotive industry.
