Lycera doubles staff as it expands drug development portfolio

Lycera went through a large recruitment push last year that doubled the pharmaceutical firm's staff to 25 people and a few interns.

The Plymouth-based company, it calls the Ann Arbor SPARK-managed Michigan Life Science Innovation Center home, plans to keep expanding its payroll this year. Most of those positions will be for things like a chief medical officer and clinical researchers.

"This year is going to be much more around targeted positions," says Kathleen Metters, president & CEO of Lycera.

Metters is one of the Lycera's newest hires, coming on board six months ago. Metters was attracted by quality research team and excellence in research. Lycera's scientists are developing oral medicines for treating autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. The company has continued to develop its portfolio of drugs under development and has also added a few more recently.

"We have been very quietly expanding our portfolio," Metters says.
