Ann Arbor's MediaSpan plans for 82 jobs over next five years

The demise of the American Newspaper may be accepted as conventional wisdom, but don't say that too loudly around the people at MediaSpan Group.

The recently relocated to Ann Arbor firm (Thanks Research Triangle Park!) makes much of its money managing content from newspapers and radio. Which isn't to say the company is lost in the 20th Century. As MediaSpan has grown it has expanded content and provides services for broadcast media, Internet sites and other evolving publishing interests.

The 6-year-old firm has gone through quite a growth spurt in recent years, increasing from 170 employees to 250 today. It hopes to add another 82 staff members within the next five years. It also has internship programs in Michigan and Florida.

MediaSpan has also opened offices in New York City and Irvine, California to bring in more variety to its client list. It's also looking to expand into more Internet social networking sites as well as international markets.

"We're changing out direction a little bit," says Peter Cooper, vice president of marketing for MediaSpan.

But that doesn't mean it has given up on the newspaper. The firm will be taking its message on the road to potential customers later this summer, promoting how the good-old newspaper isn't done yet.
