How many people have seen a new website or a new business and thought, "Why didn't I think of that?" Ideas so simple you kick yourself with envy.
Well, the Startup Weekend may be just for you. The Ann Arbor event will gather together nearly 100 business people of all stripes to create a dozen new start-up companies and make them ready for launch in one marathon weekend session.
It will go something like this: Business managers, start-up enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and players yet to named will come together with a host of ideas for new companies. The attendees will vote on the top dozen and spend a 14-hour day Saturday and a 12-hour day Sunday developing them and getting them ready to launch.
Each participant of a project developed during the weekend will be a co-founder with an ownership interest in at least one honest-to-goodness startup.
The real idea behind the event is to show off how dynamic Ann Arbor is and how much talent resides in the area. It's the ultimate extra-credit project, teaching entrepreneurs the methodology behind creating a business and the value of collaboration.
