Velcura plans to hire up to 4 this year, 20-25 within three years

Its commonly believed that milk does a body good, helping to build strong bones and muscles. Velcura Therapeutics would like its products to be known as the milk of the drug development world.

The Ann Arbor-based firm develops therapies that help restore bone health, and fight conditions like osteoporosis. Its first therapy is entering into the maze of clinical trails and Velcura hopes to guide it through the handful of trials needed for FDA approval within the next few years.

As it does that, the company, founded in 2002 with just two employees, hopes to add more staff. Today it employs nine people and provides work to another seven or so consultants. Velcura hopes to add 4-5 new positions by the end of this year and another 20-25 within three years.

"As we start expanding for clinical trials we’re going to need more people to handle that extra work," says Michael Long, president and CEO of Velcura Therapeutics

The company is developing more therapies with its research that it hopes will produce similar potential. It is also planning to establish some strategic partnerships with major pharmaceutical companies in the near future.
