Chelsea to Ann Arbor bus line up and running

Gas prices are up all over. So, if you live in Chelsea and work in Ann Arbor, or vice versa, you'll be happy to know the Chelsea-Ann Arbor bus line is up and running.

As of Wednesday, the service had 15 riders for the first morning trip and 21 for the second morning trip, said Chris White, manager of service development at the Ann Arbor Transportation Authority. The service is being operated by the Indian Trails Inc. bus company under a contract with AATA, which is paying Indian Trails $209,000 a year. AATA has a $495,000 federal grant to subsidize the service for two years. "It's a new type of service, and part of our intention was to use the federal grant to try it out," White said. "We expect to be able to get additional ridership now that the service is operating." Passengers are being offered two weeks of free rides before they have to pay $125 for a monthly pass, White said. The $125-a-month fare is considered an introductory price.
