Thomas Friedman tells locals: Economic future is in green fuels

With its history of manufacturing and research universities, Michigan could position itself at the front of the next industrial revolution - green energy technology, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman told a crowd in Ypsilanti.

Speaking at Eastern Michigan University's Convocation Center on Wednesday, Friedman - a Pulitzer Prize winner and author of the best-selling book, "The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the 21st Century" - argued the pressing economic importance of developing cleaner energy and consuming fewer resources. Drawing from his recently released book, "Hot, Flat and Crowded," Friedman said the U.S. needs to lead the world in a "green revolution" that will bring painful but necessary changes in the way the country does business.
