United Solar Ovonic LLC is headquartered in Auburn Hills, Michigan and is the world's largest manufacturer of triple junction amorphous silicon photovoltaic (PV) solar panels for converting sunlight into electricity.
The company manufactures and markets flexible thin film, peel-and-stick solar laminates that integrate into roofs, and also supplies OEM laminates to major roofing manufacturers worldwide. These panels can easily be engineered into solar energy systems installed on grid-connected buildings and other applications.
Their 167,000 square foot manufacturing plant, known as AH1, yields an annual output of 28 megawatts.
United Solar is a wholly owned subsidiary of Energy Conversion Devices (ECD Ovonics) and has over 500 employees. With additional facilities in Auburn Hills, Greenville, Michigan and Tijuana, Mexico, they are now in the process of ramping up manufacturing significantly.
