Culture of Health

Starting in 2018, as part of our "Culture of Health" series, we have been identifying and telling the stories of how the people and programs of Michigan’s unhealthiest county are creating and advocating for change - helping to create an emerging culture of health.

Progress is seen in the discovery of the taste of red pears, choosing healthy restaurant entrees, starting a walking routine on a new exercise trail, or the resilience that comes from collective support for those caring for children of opioid addicts. In a broad sense, it’s about advocating for school wellness policies, municipal health in all policies, and creating citizen scientists.
The map above showcases where these services, programs, or organizations are located. They cover the breadth of Wayne County’s 673 square miles.

And we know this is not the whole story. What projects or organizations in your community are helping to make Wayne County a healthier place to live, work, play? Send us a message so we can add them to our map or feature them in an upcoming story - we know the story of Wayne County’s emerging culture of health is just beginning.

This article is part of the Culture of Health series about programs that foster a healthy, equitable culture in Wayne County. It is made possible with funding from Wayne County. Read more of the series here.
