Owned and operated by husband and wife team Mitch Cope and Gina Reichert, their socially conscious, experimental take on art and design has been like a bucket of cold water on a sweaty old man - or maybe a better analogy would be a breath of fresh air. However you want to say it, Design 99 -- getting their name from the numerous dollar stores that litter Hamtramck -- has impacted not only Hamtramck's art community but Detroit's as well.
