When your design is inspired by F-22 and F-35 fighter planes, the result is bound to be pretty cool.
But
the students at Lawrence Tech weren't just looking to design something
cool when they conceived of the Element One. This Formula Zero racing
cart is proof positive that hydrogen fuel cells can provide a
zero-emission solution for transportation.
Fifty Lawrence Tech
students from a variety of disciplines (including the university's
undergraduate program in transportation design) came together to
develop a lightweight racing vehicle that employs a large hydrogen fuel
cell, hydrogen tank, electric motor and super capacitors to achieve
speeds of 70 mph.
Their efforts are a prime example of how Michigan can leverage its
technical and manufacturing know-how to develop cutting edge
sustainable technologies.
