French Canadian fur trappers spotted paddling down Saginaw River

If you happened to see a birch bark canoe with French Canadian fur trappers paddling down the Tittabawassee and Saginaw rivers last week, it wasn't your imagination.

The Saginaw Voyageurs were reenacting the Great Lakes fur trade during the 24th annual trek around the Great Lakes last week. They get around too -- the group has paddled more than 2,700 miles in rivers and lakes throughout Michigan and Canada.

Excerpt:

This year, they began their trip at the Gordonville Road Boat Launch in Midland County and paddled down the Tittabawassee River to the Saginaw River and down into Saginaw, where they stayed for the night before continuing on further down the river. They left at 10 a.m. and reached Saginaw about eight hours later. They stopped at parks along with way to eat and talk about their adventures.
