CMU grad soon will celebrate one-year anniversary as head of AT&T

Jim Murray graduated 18 years ago from Central Michigan University with a degree in political science. Today, he's the head of AT&T Michigan.

The Jackson native soon will celebrate his first anniversary at the job he took over last year when former president Gail Torreano stepped down to take a new position within the company.

Before stepping into his current position, the 39-year-old had worked in Lansing for nearly two decades, helping lawmakers and influencing policy.

Excerpt:

Murray said he sees his role as president as largely one of an ambassador.

Much of his first year as president was spent traveling across the state, getting to know the people in the communities served by AT&T.

He said he is settling into the new role and adjusting well.

"It's a cool challenge," he said. "I like doing something different. It's a nice change of pace."
