Freeland business owner has more than two million books

Nexteer Automotive announced last week that it was awarded a new contract to manufacture steering columns.

The company, located in Buena Vista Township, will begin producing the steering columns for a North American automaker in 2012.

A Nexteer spokeswoman declined to share the name of the North American automaker.

Nexteer said the new business will result in a $7 million investment in Plant Six, a 747,900-square-foot facility at the Buena Vista Township site.

Curt Cargile, executive director of Nexteer's U.S. operations, said in a release the project will result in 50 jobs during the life of the contract.
