YWCA Great Lakes Bay Region receives $500,000 in federal funding for program expansion

The YWCA Great Lakes Bay Region has received $500,000 in federal funds to expand its programs into Saginaw and Midland counties.

The nonprofit is one of nine Michigan projects to receive a share of $5.5 million in federal funds that was earmarked for the state, according to U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow, D-Michigan, and Carl Levin, D-Michigan.

"We're very excited," said Executive Director Lisa Grills. "We are glad to be back on our feet and start to really focus on what we wanted to focus on all these years."

Last year, the YWCA of Bay County closed its pool and fitness center on Midland Road and officials were forced to re-evaluate the agency's purpose and mission.
