Mid Michigan has a reason to cheer for a team other than the Tigers when baseball season rolls back around in the spring. That's because a Midland native earned the position of manager with a major league team in New York--and thank goodness it's not the Yankees.
Excerpt: The New York Mets made it official on Tuesday, introducing Midland, Mich., native Terry Collins as their 20th manager in franchise history.
The outfield scoreboard sported the sign "Welcome Manager Terry Collins," and a Mets jersey with Collins and the No. 10 emblazoned on its back hung in the dugout.
Mets General Manager Sandy Alderson introduced Collins at a morning press conference. Collins signed a two-year deal, reportedly worth $750,000 annually with the Mets having an option for a third year.
