High school team wins SVSU innovation competition

A team of Dow High School students won a recent innovation award for their plan for microbial fuel cells as an alternative energy source.
 
Excerpt: If Saturday is any indication, Dow High students Catherine Haslam, Varun Shanker, Vikram Shanker, Blair Subbaraman and Austen Zhu are on the road to turning the world into a better place.
 
Their project, "Microbial Fuel Cell," which takes microbial fuel cells as a source of renewable energy and reduces utility costs, earned first place at the inaugural A.H. Nickless Innovation Competition on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University.
