There's a fresh layer of snow covering the February ice, so obviously it's time to start thinking of a trip to the Farmers Market.
Shoppers will be able to do more than think about it soon.
Borgess Medical Center is about to turn its farmers market into a year round affair.
"We're in the business of promoting good health" says Rebecca Heinhold, Borgess Clinical Nutrition Manager. "Keeping our farmers' market open throughout the year keeps fresh produce available in all seasons."
The market opens for the year on March 10 and will remain open all year. The market's hours will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Thursday.
The maximum 20 vendors already have signed up. During good weather they will gather at Borgess Medical Center Courtyard off the cafeteria. In less accommodating weather, the market will be in the cafeteria.
"Buying these goods supports our local businesses and a healthier environment," Heinhold says.
Farmers Market shoppers also will be able to get nutrition counseling from registered dietitians.
