Information Management Provider changes name to reflect values

Abraxas comes from a Greek term for words of wisdom engraved in stones and gems, highly valued in ancient times.

And it's now the name of the company formerly knowns as Team Support Services, an information management firm. It offers collection, coding and preservation services to meet clients’ regulatory, fiscal and legal obligations.

The company was established in 2000, and focused on supporting law firms with their document management needs. For a legal battle that the company says created one of the largest paper trails in U.S. history the company put together a solution for efficiently collecting, coding and producing responses. The company's reputation as a leading supplier of records management services grew.

Now its niche is working primarily with companies that are required to meet certain regulatory standards with regard to their recordkeeping, such as life sciences businesses, health care providers and governmental agencies. Scanning, coding and indexing records are a few of the services the company offers. They work with both paper and electronic records.

It recently changed its name to reflect that evolution.

"The name 'Abraxas' underscores the power of knowledge," says Jim Stephanak, chief marketing officer. Company services allow clients to glean strategic business knowledge from their records. "Abraxas is an information partner, not just a vendor."

As Team Support Services, the private firm was named recently among the "Michigan 50 Companies To Watch."

The company also has been experiencing growth of its staff. The 12-year-old records and information management company of 120 employees is coming off a solid year of growth that translated to 20 people being added to its staff between the last quarter of 2011 and the end of the first quarter of 2012.

"We’re the same company with the same dedicated staff and the same passion for our mission," says Renee McParlan, a partner at Abraxas. "With our new name comes a renewed dedication to innovation and excellence that builds on our legacy."
