Reedy gets ready to add latest businesses to Entertainment District

The same folks that brought downtown Kalamazoo an Igloo for dining and drinks during the winter months are getting ready to expand again, this time with a reception hall known as Loft 310.

The newest addition to Reedy Corp.'s Entertainment District is a 10,000-square-foot banquet facility, able to seat 300 or be opened up for a cocktail party of up to 600.

The room can be configured in many ways to accommodate all sorts of events from corporate and private parties, to business meetings, conferences, weddings and receptions.

Loft 310 takes its name from the address of the building, 310 E. Michigan Ave., which also houses the Monaco Bay Piano Bar & Grill. The banquet hall, on the second level of the six-story Rosenbaum Building, features brick walls, hard wood floors, eight-foot windows, and wide open spaces in what the company calls a Chicago-style loft.

"It's big-city style in Kalamazoo," says Traver  McLaughlin, of Reedy Corp.

The banquet facility opens up into what will soon be The Gatsby, a modern speakeasy, also the second floor.

McLaughlin says Loft 310 will provide a modern environment that will fit any event. People in Kalamazoo and from out of town looking for a location for their events have found that somewhat difficult.

"We fit that need,"  McLaughlin says. "It will spur tourism and add a dimension for the Entertainment District that we have been missing."

Initially, the company will focus on booking wedding receptions in the new space, but it expects to expand into the corporate sector after that. Special entertainment events, including shows and musical performances could be in the works. Bookings now are being accepted for events after April 1 by calling 269-978-4695.

There is more space in the Rosenbaum Building for further expansion or changes to existing venues there.

For those keeping track, the Entertainment District features Monaco Bay Piano Bar and Grill, Wild Bull Saloon & Steakpit, Sky|Deck, District Sqaure, Arctic Square, and Loft310. Reedy Corp,. and its Metro Properties also have offices there.

"We will see what the future holds," says Reedy Corp.'s Bill Fahl.
