Dennis Rodman the DJ comes to downtown Kalamazoo

Winter storms could take on a whole new meaning when Dennis Rodman comes to Kalamazoo.

The former NBA player known almost as much for his antics off the court as his playing under the basket -- and a one-time Detroit Piston -- will be hosting the fun in the Entertainment District Jan. 28.

He will be filming for an online show for lovinglifetv.com. Rodman's representatives recently contacted Traver McLaughlin, who handles marketing and communications for Reedy Corp., and the event was booked. From 11 p.m. till 1 a.m. Rodman will sign autographs, interact with the crowd, and perform on the turntables in the Entertainment District.

Tickets will be on sale now at WinterFestKalamazoo.com for $25 or $30 at the door.

Rodman is part of a weekend of winter hijinks dubbed WinterFest in the Entertainment District at 300 E. Michigan Ave.

A Winter White Party, in which everyone dresses in snow garb kicks off the fest on Jan. 27. And Chicago Nerd Rock Band, The Spazmatics, will bring their high-energy '80s music live to the Wild Bull Stage to round out the weekend.

The Entertainment District offers four venues in the block of East Michigan Avenue between Pitcher and Edwards streets to be opened by Reedy Corp. It includes Monaco Bay Piano Bar and Grill, Wild Bull Saloon & Steakpit and the SkyDeck and District Square, which currently is in its winter incarnation called Arctic Square.
