Deadline set for spring scholarship opportunities

There are 41 opportunities for young people to obtain scholarship funds for college through the Kalamazoo Community Foundation. The deadline for spring scholarships is March 31.

Carol Carter, of the Kalamazoo Community Foundation says the scholarships are awarded through a competitive application process.

Students in Kalamazoo County or those who attend a Kalamazoo County high school are eligible.

The Foundation also is accepting applications for four scholarships offered to students who live or attend school in Van Buren County. A scholarship for St. Joseph County students enrolled in veterinary school also is available.

Carter says various individuals and companies across the community have made scholarships available. Some are longstanding. The Kalamazoo Science Foundation Scholarship, for example, was established in 1958. It goes to promising Kalamazoo area high school students who might not otherwise be able to afford an education in science, mathematics or engineering.

Information on eligibility criteria and application requirements for all scholarships is available online.

Applicants are asked to use using eGRANT, the Community Foundation's web-based scholarship application system.

The system allows scholarship seekers to apply for up to eight scholarships in one online form.
