The man responsible for overseeing $80 billion in green recovery spending and best-selling author of the definitive book on green jobs "The Green Collar Economy" is coming to Kalamazoo.
Van Jones, an advisor to the Obama White House and co-founder and president of Rebuild the Dream, will be appearing at Kalamazoo College. He is a globally recognized, award-winning pioneer in human rights and the clean energy economy. And TIME magazine called him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2009.
He is a co-founder of three successful nonprofit organizations: the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Color of Change, and Green For All. A Yale Law School graduate, he has a 20-year track record as a successful, innovative and award-winning social entrepreneur.
Jones will deliver the 2011 William Weber Lecture in Government and Society at Kalamazoo College on at 8 p.m. Nov. 2, in the Dalton Theatre, 1200 Academy St., Kalamazoo. A book signing will follow in the lobby. He will also participate in a panel discussion, "The Political Moment: Social Justice Tensions, Possibilities, and Aspirations," from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 3, in the W.K. Hicks Student Center.
