Verizon cell towers serve highway travelers

Can you hear me now? More people should be answering, "yes, I can."

Verizon Wireless has activated two new cell sites in Van Buren County.

The towers should improve service for customers traveling I-94 and those not on the move.

Verizon says customers will enjoy clearer reception and fewer dropped calls as they receive e-mail and text, picture and video messages; access the Internet; view high-quality videos; and download music, games and ringtones.

"These new cell sites were built to ensure that our customers who travel these roads regularly can continue relying on their phones for staying in touch," says Greg Haller, president of the Michigan/Indiana/Kentucky Region, Verizon Wireless. "The most advanced device is only as good as the network it runs on."

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $60 billion since it was formed - - $5.7 billion on average every year -- to increase the coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services.

In Michigan, Verizon Wireless has more than 2,100 employees and 65 company-owned retail locations in more than 40 cities, including  Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and St. Joseph.
