Michigan Ag Department answers Cottage Food Law questions

The Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development recently addressed 76 questions during a live Facebook Q & A session, reports the Kalamazoo Gazette.

Byron Beerbower, Compliance Officer for MDARD's Food and Dairy Division, answered questions about the nearly one-year-old Cottage Food Law, PA 113, which exempts a "cottage food operation" from the licensing and inspection provisions of the Michigan Food Law of 2000.

Excerpt:

The new law is intended to be an opportunity for people who may be considering  starting a food business, but are reluctant to spend the money needed to establish or rent commercial kitchen space.
