When the Race Exhibit came to Kalamazoo Valley Museum people realized there was more to learn.
The book "Telling the Kalamazoo Race Story" examines racial attitudes in Kalamazoo. WMUK's Gordon Evans talks with the Executive Director of the Southwest Michigan Black Heritage Society Donna Odom and Western Michigan University Journalism Professor Sue Ellen Christian about the project.
Excerpt:
Telling the Kalamazoo Community Race Story includes chapters focused on neighborhoods or subjects such as inter-racial marriage. It also includes oral histories from some area residents. Journalism students from Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo College and area high schools worked on the stories.
Interviews with Christian and Odom also can be heard by checking out Arts & More.
