Calhoun County wants to shed 100,000 pounds

The challenge has been issued. Officials in Calhoun County want residents to lose 100,000 pounds collectively and commit to a healthy lifestyle, reports the Battle Creek Enquirer.

The kickoff event at Battle Creek's Lakeview Square Mall drew more than 200 supporters who got moving to the Chicken Dance and energized with some Tai Chi.

Among those signing up was the Flynn family of Lee Township. They joined because mother Anne Flynn, 30, said they want to be healthier.

It's not that they need to lose weight. It's that they want to feel better by walking more and eating less fast food, she said.

"It's just putting your mind to it," she said.
