Finding a job or career that you’re passionate about can make all the difference, but loving where you live is also crucial. For three local young McLaren physicians, Port Huron checks all the boxes — providing a rewarding profession, a supportive home, and a small-town community to serve.
“I really enjoy the closeness of the community. It’s the kind of place where you bump into your patients at the gym or see your coworkers while grabbing groceries—it gives a wholesome sense of connection. It’s like living in a Hallmark movie… just with better healthcare,” says Anubhav Jain, a cardiologist practicing at
McLaren Port Huron.
For 32-year-old Dr. Jain, originally from India, it was love at first sight when he first visited Port Huron. Jain moved to the United States in 2016 to pursue higher education and advanced medical training at Wayne State University in Detroit.

“I remember driving along I-94 and seeing signs for Port Huron — I had no idea that one day I’d actually end up here,” he says. “Toward the end of my cardiology fellowship, I started job hunting and, sure enough, that highway sign turned into a real-life destination. That’s how I landed in Port Huron.”
The healthcare professional considers McLaren Port Huron a suitable first for his career because of the welcoming, tight-knit community and the quieter, small-town feel.
“The physician groups are collaborative, the patients are genuinely respectful, and the area itself has a peaceful charm. Oh, and let’s not forget the Blue Water — it definitely adds a calming vibe after a long day at the hospital.”
The days are certainly long, as Jain helps patients with managing heart attacks, arrhythmias, and heart failure.
“Honestly, it’s a blessing to be able to practice medicine here,” he says. “When someone comes in really sick and you’re able to turn things around for them, there’s nothing more gratifying than that.”
When he’s not busy saving lives, the cardiology professional enjoys peaceful walks along Edison Parkway near the Blue Water Bridge and lively Friday nights out at
Señor Tequila,
Casey’s, or
Bootleggers.
“If you’re looking for a community where patients genuinely appreciate you, this is the place,” he says. “My advice? Live in town if you can. It cuts down on commute time and lets you enjoy all the little gems the area has to offer. Plus, you’ll get used to people recognizing you at Meijer — consider it a small-town perk!”
Metro Detroit native Ashley Jones was referred to her current job as a psychiatrist at McLaren Port Huron by a former friend and colleague from her residency. After he spoke highly of the area and this job, Jones applied and was hired.
Ashley Jones.
She appreciates being near family and has just started to discover the new-to-her area. The community has everything she’s looking for in a small-knit coastal town, and she enjoys working at the community-based hospital.
“I like the close access to Lake Huron, and I plan on exploring more of this community this spring and summer,” Jones says. “There seems to be a lot of waterfront parks and trails that I have yet to explore.”
Some local gems Jones has come to know and love already are the
Raven Cafe and Casey’s. Although she considers the food 10 out of 10, what’s even greater is the purpose Jones has found in her career here.
“I find it rewarding giving back to those who are often at their lowest points in life,” she says. “I also enjoy the challenges inpatient psychiatry brings and how there are no one-size-fits-all treatment plans.”
She encourages other young medical professionals to see if McLaren Port Huron is a great fit for them, too.
“My advice is to apply and see for yourself what this area has to offer,” she says. “I connected well with the staff and the area when I interviewed here and this is what ultimately drew me to this role. I can also comment on both the great team I personally work with, in addition to feeling supported, and that makes a huge difference.”
Andrea-Kozloff.
For Andrea Kozloff, a family medicine doctor at McLaren Port Huron, she knew she always wanted to return to the area, her hometown.
The Cros-Lex High School graduate attended MSU and Wayne State University before coming back to be near family and start the next chapter of her professional career in Port Huron.
“I love living in this area for the sense of community,” she says. “It’s really great to live somewhere where neighbors are actually neighbors. And it’s just beautiful here, from farms to the beach, there is natural beauty everywhere you look.”
Kozloff enjoys going to the
Port Huron Civic Theatre shows, dining downtown, or getting a sweet treat from
Milkhouse Cafe with her husband.
“My current job with McLaren Port Huron Academic Center for Family Medicine was a great opportunity for me,” she says. “I have been working with resident physicians for a few years and was excited to learn McLaren Port Huron was starting a Graduate Medical Education program so close to home. It’s an honor for me to be part of this program in the beginning stages.”
Kozloff considers this program a tremendous benefit of the Blue Water Area, helping to train the next generation of primary care physicians who can practice, live, and grow here.
