Holiday displays to see along Michigan’s Thumb Coast

For many, a holiday light tour exploring dancing and brilliantly colored displays is a cherished tradition that sparks joy during the Christmas season.

To help you plan your trip, we've put together a list — and checked it twice — of some of this year's most outstanding holiday displays. Located along Michigan’s Thumb Coast from Algonac to Fort Gratiot, here are some of our favorite displays guaranteed to instill some holiday cheer.

ALGONAC

Sporting Algonac’s school colors, blue and gold colored lights deck the trees along the boardwalk. A new feature this year, a line of handmade Christmas cards offers well wishes to passersby.

“The cards were made to bring holiday joy to the community,” says Denise Gerstenberg, Algonac City Manager.

This local holiday house goes all out during the Christmas season. Multi-colored lights, music, and recognizable characters such as Santa Claus, Mickey, and Olaf are just a few of the features you can find at this home.

“My dad was really into Christmas when I was a child,” says homeowner Linda Butler. “He passed away five years ago. Some of my decorations belonged to my dad, I put them out to help keep his memory alive.”

This light display is flanked by massive pine trees adorned with colorful lights with Santa and his sack of presents waiting to greet you at the entrance.

8808 Marsh Road
Multi-colored lights wrap around the house as Santa Claus keeps watch from the front porch. A Nativity scene, friendly, glowing gnomes, and nutcrackers are other features to check out at this holiday display.

MARINE CITY

There are multi-colored lights, trees, and reindeer surrounding this home, instilling a sense of holiday spirit to onlookers.

A brightly-lit lawn showcases a candy cane tunnel at this home with candy cane windmills and a  gingerbread house. Drivers can tune their radio station to 88.5 FM to enjoy the lights dancing in tune with the music.

Marine City’s Twinkle Forest at Heritage Square dazzles with 63 multi-colored twinkling trees making the forest sparkle.

“The trees were purchased by local businesses, residents, and some are bought in memory of loved ones this holiday season,” says Jeanne Burris Johnson, Executive Director of the Marine City Area Chamber of Commerce.

ST. CLAIR

From Santa Claus and Snoopy to gingerbread and snowmen, many characters surround this festive home helping spread holiday cheer.

Garland and lights line the boardwalk’s waterfront, but the most prominent feature at this downtown holiday display is its Christmas tree. Decorated with multi-colored lights, the massive 30-foot tall tree is topped with a brightly-lit star reaching up into the evening sky.

“This Christmas tree is new to the boardwalk purchased from Bronner’s in Frankenmuth,” says Patrice Hawkins, Recreation Director for the City of St Clair. “It is something you really need to come see — it’s beautiful.”

With nutcrackers at the entrance keeping watch, this holiday display is a vision in green. Wreaths are on display in each window and several Christmas trees shine their light from within the home creating a festive glow.

MARYSVILLE

Light displays created by local businesses and organizations is sparking seasonal spirit at Marysville City Park. A locomotive decked out in multi-colored lights is one distinctive display featured at this location worth checking out.

Located across from each other, these vividly-lit homes have a wide collection of inflatable characters featured in their holiday displays including beloved characters including Mickey, Minnie, Santa, and several mischievous Minions.

The festive glow created by these homes can be seen from quite a distance and is worth the drive to see these stunning displays. Located next door to each other, one home sports an array of multi-colored lights while the other is decked out with classic red, green, and white lights.

PORT HURON

Hosted by Port Huron Parks & Recreation, this dazzling and immersive annual light display at Pine Grove Park is sure to impress.

Dozens of businesses and organizations across the community have created festive holiday displays that are showcased throughout the park at no charge. Recognizable characters such as Rudolph and Santa, or local landmarks like the Colony Tower, can be found at this massive light display which can be enjoyed from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. through Jan. 2.

Alternating, multi-colored lights with several glowing reindeer — and even polar bears — can be found roaming the front lawn at this holiday display.

While the Grinch is present at this holiday display, it’s unlikely to make you grumpy with dancing, multi-colored LED lights adorning seemingly every inch of this property. Many of the lights are synced up to Christmas music, so visitors can listen along by tuning in to 92.9 FM while viewing the light show.

These homes located nearby each other offer unique and brilliantly colored holiday displays. Multi-colored lights and several inflatable characters such as Santa and Rudolph are just a few features you can find at these displays.

Multi-colored lights and projected snowflakes add brilliance at this display, but the most unique feature is the outdoor bar decked out to offer some holiday spirit.

La Salle & Edison Boulevards
Residents of this subdivision go all out with their holiday displays and it is a must-see location for those on a holiday light tour. With an array of sparkling lights to catch your eye, Christmas music playing softly in the background, and multi-colored spheres hanging overhead, visitors can get an immersive experience at this community-wide display.

FORT GRATIOT

With thousands of multi-colored LED lights, this holiday display dazzles and is a must-see in Fort Gratiot. The light show is synced to Christmas music on 107.7 FM so visitors can tune their car radios in to listen along.

Current homeowners Bobby and Lisa Hall bought the house five years ago.

“My parents built this house in 1984 and this is the home I grew up in as a child,” Bobby says. After my dad passed 12 years ago, I told my mom ... When you're ready, I’ll buy the house.”

The couple says they enjoy going all out with their holiday display to help get people in the spirit of Christmas and are constantly adding new features to their display.

“For us, it's not trying to be the best, it's just because we enjoy seeing all the cars pull up to enjoy it,” Bobby says. “The best part is when we can hear the kids singing from inside the cars and it's a cherry on top when some get out and we can see them dancing in the yard. It makes Christmas time so special for us.”

While Santa and his reindeer fly off into the night sky, several inflatable characters including snowmen and nutcrackers stay behind to keep watch.

This holiday display with angels, wreaths, and snowflakes scattered about is prominently decorated in green and gold lights and sparkles in this residential neighborhood.
