Alternative high schools have become a regular institution in education in relatively recent years. Come early September, Bay College will become the home to the newest one.
The Escanaba Daily Press reported recently that the alternative school, known as Bay Middle School, will offer a large curriculum and give at-risk high school students a wide variety of opportunities.
Excerpt: On Sept. 7, Bay Middle College will open its doors for the first time on the campus of Bay College. Formerly know as the Fitzharris Alternative High School in Wells, Bay Middle College is embracing a new concept and expansive curriculum to give at-risk high schoolers more opportunities than ever.
According to Principal Dan Seder, the move to the college campus is a highly-anticipated ascent into a unique and beneficial atmosphere.
"It is called the power of the sight," he explained. "If you are located on a college campus - just everything that comes with that, the atmosphere, the attitude, the expectations, really has an impact on the kids."
