One of Ann Arbor's elder companies is recreating itself while adding new energy jobs to the city's south side.
Founded in 1932 Cummins-Barnard was bought in January by HDR with the office of 115 adopting the new moniker. Contrary to the acquisition downsizing template, the energy industry design and consulting firm plans to hire an additional 10 to 15 people this year and remain in its strategic home for the foreseeable future.
"We're 25 minutes from Metro Airport, so we our travel anywhere is one stop from the Northwest gateway," says Bill Damon, senior vice president and the national director of power consulting for HDR.
The company also is negotiating for another 5,000 square feet of office space in its current Ann Arbor home to meet payroll expansion's plans. Among the jobs that will be offered are for engineers, designers and those with appropriate technical backgrounds.
The company works on everything from managing electricity to working with renewable energy and has plans to break into more alternative energy areas as it grows.
