Royal Oak is working to redevelop 11 Mile Road east of downtown by acquiring non-conforming, obsolete and blighted properties.
The city is focusing on the area between Campbell and Troy streets. The idea is to acquire obsolete and blighted properties for demolition and future redevelopment. Thus, removing blight, providing more on-site parking for small businesses in the area, making it a more pedestrian friendly place, improve its aesthetics, spurring reinvestment and create a seamless integration between the commercial area and surrounding residential district.
The plan called for purchasing 1207 and 1211 E. 11 Mile Road, however, a deal for the property could not be reached. The city is now looking for different approaches to improve the corridor.
