Chinese manufacturing company to establish North American operations in Troy

A Chinese manufacturing company has announced that it will build its first North American manufacturing facility in Oakland County.

Already established with a sales office in the city of Troy, Wellmei US Inc. has announced that it will establish its first North American manufacturing operation in that same city.

The provider of molds and parts for the automotive, home appliance, packaging, medical, and office equipment industries has five factories in Asia and 4,800 employees worldwide.

The Troy facility will include space for mold production and plastic injection molding to serve the automotive and medical industries.

As a result of the company’s investment in Troy, which is expected to generate a total private investment of nearly $1.9 million and create 71 jobs over five years, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation has awarded Wellmei support from the Michigan Strategic Fund.

The company is receiving a $355,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Troy city government is also offering marketing services and talent assistance.

It’s said that Michigan was chosen over a competing site in Ohio.

"We’re excited Wellmei US Inc. is expanding its footprint in Oakland County with a state-of-the-art $1.9 million manufacturing facility--its first in North America," says Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.

"I congratulate the company on its growth, which will bring an additional 71 jobs to Troy, and thank the company leadership for its commitment to Oakland County."
