Royal Oak to review Normandy Oaks proposals

The Royal Oak City Commission will discuss residential-development proposals for the Normandy Oaks Golf Course at 8:30 a.m. Saturday during a special work session.

The city is looking at selling the 9-hole golf course to help balance its budget. Seventeen developers have submitted proposals for the site with purchase prices ranging between $4 million and $18.75 million. The proposals call for everything from building row houses to single-family homes to rental apartment buildings.

The Normandy Oaks committee has recommended the City Commission accept the Pulte Homes proposal. The plan calls for paying the city $14.3 million and building 204 single-family lots for homes.

The City Commission is also looking at other options, such as cutting services or raising taxes, to balance its budget.

The Normandy Oaks Golf Course is located at 4234 Delemere Boulevard at the northeast corner of Normandy Road and Delemere Boulevard on the city’s north side. The 49-acre site is zoned single family residential. Normandy Oaks is one of three golf courses in the city and is one of two that the city owns.

The meeting will be held in the Mahany/Meininger Senior Community Center, 3500 Marais. For information, call (248) 246-3000.
