ITC lights up power towers with X-mas lights

Houses and Christmas trees aren't the only things getting strung up with decorative lights this year.

ITC Holdings is lighting up ten of its 150-foot tall transmission towers across Michigan with colorful holiday decorations. Each decorated tower will receive about a quarter mile of lights (16,000 bulbs) complete with a Happy Holiday sign and star at the top.

The lights will stay up until 2010. The local decorated towers include one in Brownstown Township (I-75 north of Vreeland), two in Novi (I-96 at Meadowbrook and M-5 at 12 Mile), one in Belleville (I-94 west of Haggerty), one in Detroit (8 Mile Road west of Hoover) and one in Sterling Heights (Van Dyke Road east of M-53).

This is the sixth year that ITC Holdings has decorated its transmission towers for the holidays. Ferndale-based Eagle Sign Company designed the decorations this year.
