Ann Arbor's Molecular Imaging Research plans to grow more than 50 percent

Molecular Imaging Research Preclinical Services is getting too big for its britches. Or rather, its bricks.

Frank Urban, Senior Manager of Business Development for MIR says that they're growing so fast that by 2010 their current building will be too small for them.

Now, that doesn't seem so crazy, companies outgrow buildings all the time. However, if you factor in that this pharmaceutical company moved into its current location in 2006, well, that's pretty impressive.

"We have 25 full-timers in southeast Michigan," Urban says. "Since 2003 we've grown nearly 50 percent and we plan to grow another 60% percent."

If that's not enough, Urban says MIR is looking to have at least 30-plus employees by years end.

The company has benefited from Ann Arbor's growing pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry; however, another reason Urban attributes the growth to is their profit reinvestment.

"All the money made goes right back into the company," he says. "It's reinvested right back into MIR."

MIR's growth could possibly take them elsewhere, but Urban is quick to diffuse that statement.

"We'll stay in Ann Arbor," he says. "It's our identity."
