The Michigan Economic Development Corporation is supporting a new brownfield redevelopment project in Southfield in cooperation with the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
Michigan brownfield programs provide incentives to invest in formally used industrial, commercial or residential land and keep it in productive use. The project is expected to create a total of 46 new jobs and involve $3 million in new capital investment.
State and local tax capture will support the redevelopment of a contaminated three-parcel site at the northwest corner of Telegraph and 12 Mile. The developer will construct a 16,000-square-foot retail and commercial development with parking on the land, which currently houses an abandoned manufacturing facility and gas station.
The Southfield brownfield redevelopment is one of seven economic development projects Granholm announced last week. In all, they are expected to create and retain a total of 5,420 jobs in Michigan. Since January 2005, with targeted assistance from MEDC, over 188,000 new jobs have been created across the state.
