Awecomm to turn 100 percent growth into 5-10 new jobs

If a small group of committed people can’t change the world, then they can at least change their lives. That's what a handful of engineers and an investors did in 1999 when they formed Awecomm Technologies.

The web-development firm from Troy started out with six people, hosting websites for small- to medium-sized businesses. Today it employs 15 people and a couple of interns.

It started to take off two years ago when it started its Web Strategies Group. That division brought on five new people and subsequently grew the company's revenue by a boffo 100 percent. Before that, the company consistently grew a respectable but modest 15 percent each year.

"We're currently hiring quite a few more people," says Chris Spiek, managing partner of Awecomm Technologies.

Awecomm Technologies expects to keep growing at an aggressive pace in the near future. It just hired one person and has another job opening. It is also looking to open a new data center in the next year or two, which would mean adding another 5-10 new jobs to its payroll.

However, the company's leaders haven’t decided whether the center will be in Michigan or elsewhere. Wherever it goes, it's sure to change the lives of at least a few more people looking for a job.
