People who like to yell at the cable guy are about to have a few more faces to target this year. Comcast plans to hire 20 new people in Westland and more than 300 across the state this year as part of a $165 million state-wide investment. The money will fund equipment and facility upgrades in Westland and Roseville, along with more personnel.
"These facilities are an important part of our strategy to continue growth and improve product offerings and service throughout Michigan," says Dave Buhl, a senior vice president for Comcast. "We are creating jobs in Michigan and training our Michigan team members to better serve our 1.3 million Michigan customers. Customers throughout the state will benefit from our investments."
Among those new investments is a recently completed facility measuring in at just under 10,000 square feet on Hix Road in Westland. The renovated structure houses more than 40 employees, and Comcast plans to post another 20 additional positions there in the coming months. The site helps Comcast technicians carry out their duties, such as installations.
The other major improvement comes at Comcast's technician training center on Groesbeck Highway in Roseville. The facility has 10 full-time trainers and can teach up to 70 service technician trainees at any given time. Indoor and outdoor structures recreate scenarios technicians face on a regular basis, including unfinished basements, poorly lit attics and cramped crawl spaces.
Philadelphia-based Comcast is a leading provider of entertainment, information and communications products and services. It services 24.1 million cable and 13.2 million Internet customers.
