Elemental uses new media marketing to create new jobs and 300 percent growth

Five years ago five people decided they could do better for themselves rather than work for someone else. And so Elemental was born.

"It's really about chemistry," says Carl Winans, chief marketing officer for Elemental. "The chemistry and skill set was so complementary that we decided to strike out on our own."

Today the new media marketing firm has grown to 14 employees and hopes to expand its staff to 20 or 25 people within three years. If its track record of 300 percent revenue growth since 2005 holds up, that shouldn’t be a problem.

The Troy-based firm focuses on all aspects of marketing from website creation to jump-starting the creative process for clients in search of ideas. Elemental redesigned the internal website for Compuware employees and recently landed work for DeLoitte & Touche.

It also has launched a social networking site for the creative class called Deep Canvas. It's also trying to find the best ways to maximize marketing with new emerging technologies, like social networking sites and streaming video.

"We're really focused on emerging technologies and how they apply to advertising," Winans says.
