Honigman grows Ann Arbor office, one attorney at a time

Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn LLP's Ann Arbor office has added an additional attorney, for a total of four. 

The firm announced last week that Barbara Kaye has joined the expanding office's corporate and securities department. Before joining Honigman, Kaye worked at Dykema Gossett's Ann Arbor office.

The firm hopes to add six more lawyers in the next two years, though managing partner David Parsigian says things may move more quickly. 

"It's very important to have Ann Arbor-centric people in our office," he says, "We can't just export people from Detroit... that's going to be the basis on which we grow our office."

This kind of thinking lead to the Detroit-based firm's decision to open an office in Ann Arbor in the first place. 

"They recognized Ann Arbor as an important market in southeast Michigan," Parsigian explains. "There are a lot of things going on in Ann Arbor, in an otherwise depressing market, especially with regard to funding."

The corporate and securities department works with entities and individuals including entrepreneurs, start-ups, venture capital funds and private equity funds.

"There's a lot of excitement," Parsigian says. "There's a lot of focus and the understanding that we need to shift our economy."
