Peoplemovers creates regional social media platform

Major regional leaders might not collaborate as much as we want at times, but they are coming together to help local start-up Peoplemovers get going.

The Detroit-based start-up announced at the Mackinac Policy Conference that three of the Big 4 (City of Detroit, Wayne and Macomb counties) have become early adopters of their new social media platform. Two agencies of the Mexican government, along with 340 local organizations and businesses, are taking advantage of Peoplemovers, which has three employees.

"We plan on creating a platform for all governments, businesses, and other organizations to collaborate," says Keith Zendler, CEO and founder of Peoplemovers. "We're creating a community network, an online network where every government has a website so they can share their information."

Peoplemovers began testing out its initial version in 2008 before formally launching this year. Its latest version offers a range of features that help organizations connect with their constituents and customers. The idea is to solicit and identify volunteer opportunities, generate awareness for community events, and build support for initiatives, among other reasons.
