Southfield-based tech consultants W3R on track to meet ambitious 5-year growth plan

Southfield-based W3R Consulting ended the first year of its "505" strategic growth plan, which aims for the company to achieve $50 million in revenue within five years. So, how did they do? This year, w3r is projected to take in $8 to 10 million; a significant increase from the $6 million it earned in 2006.

The secret to the company's growth is diversification, both in w3r's client roster and their geographic service area. Four satellite offices have been opened, in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Chicago and New York City and their client base has grown from primarily automotive companies to health care, insurance and financial services.

Founded in 1995 by a pair of UM students and a third partner, the company name was fashioned from the founders' mantra, "We create, construct and connect results for our customers."

w3r specializes in flexible technology consulting services and while it's certainly not a unique service,  Eric Hardy, the company's CEO, attributes w3r's success to "developing real business relationships that are built on more than just the ability to provide service."

He estimates 85% of their work is in the provisioning of technical contract labor and their remaining business is based on providing temporary personnel to a company that is in need of specific training. "We can train employees to have expertise in a particular product line, software, infrastructure, application or integration," says Bashar Hannosh, w3r's director of sales.

w3r anticipates adding 75 to 100 positions in the next year.
