Southgate wins award for energy conservation

Southgate was saving on some energy by installing green projects throughout the city. So much so that they were recognized by Wayne County. Congratulations! Now, everyone else, follow Southgate's lead.

The city installed a solar panel walkway leading to its golf course clubhouse, which provides some of the electricity to run the facility.

It also installed a photovoltaic solar panel system at Veterans Memorial Library that produces electricity from the sun. That electricity is connected to a power grid and reduces the amount of power the city has to buy.

Energy generated from the panel allowed the city to be the first Downriver to benefit from DTE’s pilot program, SolarCurrents. The program pays customers who purchase and install solar photovoltaic systems on their residences or businesses.
