Both Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and Automation Alley came out in support of the New International Trade Crossing, which would build a second bridge connecting Michigan and Canada south of the Ambassador Bridge.
The second span, which is opposed by the Ambassador Bridge Co., would create tens of thousands of jobs, while reducing delays at the Detroit-Windsor border crossing.

However, the NITC/DRIC project is as much about the future as about the traffic levels. Patterson has said he fears southeast Michigan could lose business if the new bridge isn't built.
"It's
time for those who stand in the way of progress to step aside and allow
Michigan to move toward the future," Patterson said this week.
